Duration: 60 minute session Description: Students will apply what they have learned about fractions to a real life situation. Students will see the benefit of understanding fractions and apply knowledge to real life experiments. As in the following recipe directions.
Goals:
4,5,3 Connections: demonstrate use of Math in everyday life.
5,5,2 Patterns and Relationships: Explain relationship between fractions: equivalent, simplest form mixed numbers, and improper fractions between fractions and decimals
Objectives: Students will practice using fractions by following a recipe.
Materials:
- Brownie mix
- bowl
- spoons
- pan
- eggs
- water
- measuring cups etc.
Procedure: Follow the directions on the recipe card for making brownies. Assessment: Students are able to apply what they have learned about fractions to a real life situation. Making brownies: Students can actually see the benefit of understanding fractions and they can apply that knowledge to close their learning gap of fractions.
