Duration: 5-6 days Description: This project is to let the children recognize different characteristics of one state or more.

Goals: Students will recognize different characteristics of various states.

Objectives: Students will engage in an activity of defining the characteristics of one state or more.

Materials:

  • Paper
  • Pencils
  • Crayons
  • Books with information on states

Procedure: Gather some books and pass out enough paper to cover this lesson. Divide class into small groups of three. Assign one state for each group. Ask student to identify the following for one or more states: state flag, state bird, state mammal, state motto. Have student write a 1 page report (or more) on the state. Students should do research and take notes on a separate sheet. Assessment: Have students report in front of the class about the findings on their particular state.  This way other students will have information on another state.
