Description: This is a lesson where students read fables, determine the morals of the fables, and discuss real life examples of where the moral may or may not have helped them in their own lives.

Goals: To teach students the morals that society places on them and to analyze their own behaviors.

Objectives:

  • To encourage student self-analysis
  • To encourage students to comprehend reading
  • To encourage positive listening behaviors
  • Materials:

    • collection of fables
    • paper
    • pens or pencils

    Procedure:

  • Student volunteers to read one of the fables.
  • Student must tell the other students the title of the fable and must read the fable aloud.
  • Students write on a sheet of paper that has been divided into three columns the title of the fable, the moral of the fable, and real life examples.
  • The students discuss the moral and write the one that they feel best fits. Then students can either share real life examples verbally or they can write them down on paper.
  • Next student repeats the the steps with a different story.
  • Assessment: The students have a sheet of paper that will have the title, the moral, and examples of it. This will determine if they have listened to each other. The teacher can also assess the students on their participation of the lesson.
