Lesson # 1 - Organization
Equipment: benches, hoops, horse, mats, springboard, climber
Teaching suggestions:
-
Divide class into 6 groups
-
Each group is given one station to set up and to take down
-
Explanations are given on safe ways to carry equipment
-
Rotate each group through stations so that they will become familiar with the rotational pattern.

Allow time for free exploration of their own equipment
Lesson # 2 - Shapes
Equipment: all gymnastics equipment
Warm-up: run around gym, on whistle jump as high as you can
Teaching suggestions:

Direction - jump and land on a spot

Discuss different shapes
-
Direction - jump on the spot making different shapes while in the air

Direction - balance in as many different shapes
-
Direction - balance in as many curled shapes
-
Direction - alternate curled and other shapes on apparatus (no more than 3 rotation moves)
Lesson # 3 - Shapes Partner Work
Equipment: all gymnastic equipment
Warm-up: practice sequences from last day
Teaching suggestions:

Direction - running and jumping showing different shapes (curled, long/thin, wide/stretched)

Direction - using one piece of apparatus show two different shapes with your partner (must maintain balance while showing the two shapes)

Direction - with your partner show three shapes in a sequence (partners should be side by side)
Lesson #4 Apparatus - partner sequence should be adapted to apparatus
Equipment: all gymnastic equipment
Warm-up: Fireman's carry -
In groups of 5, students take turns carrying each other across the gym floor. Person being carried is in the "Superman," position and the other students each carry a limb.
Teaching suggestions:

Direction - running and jumping with partner showing different shapes in the air (work on timing, shapes must be clear, good height should be obtained)

Direction - partner sequence must include three shapes, a run and jump, and a balance (balance must be still and partners should be side by side)

Adapt sequence work to apparatus
Lesson #5 - Shapes
Equipment: all gymnastics equipment
Warm-up: partner sequence from last day or fireman's carry
Teaching suggestions:

Repeat sequence using a leader and follower relationship (partners must be simultaneous, timing is very important)

Select students to demonstrate sequences
